Electrical Stimulation Electrical stimulation is used to augment the activity of a weak muscle. An electrical current is passed close to the muscle and as it does so a contraction takes place. This is extremely useful for very weak pelvic floor muscles that need help to get going when the ability to contract the pelvic floor has been forgotten. The treatment can take place in a clinic setting or at home using a small machine, about the size of a cigarette packet that may be hired. Home machines can be used daily for up to an hour for a period of time varying from as little as one month to as long as one year. Using a different frequency the same machine can be used to help calm the bladder in cases of urge incontinence. Back to Home Exercises or click on an option |
